Texas A&M's sports teams were known as the Farmers in the early days. It was in the 1920's that the term "Aggie" gained popularity. The school's yearbook was renamed Aggieland in 1949, and "Aggie" became the school's official nickname."Reveille is the mascot of the Aggies, a collie that roams the sidelines during football games. One day in 1931, some students were returning to campus when they acidentally hit a stray puppy and injured its leg. After stealthly bringing the dog to the campus dorms and acting as nurses to the injured animal, the dog went to sleep, only to bark as reveille woke the students (and the dog).

This is where the name Reveille came from.In spite of the fact that dogs were not allowed on campus, Reveille was the exception, to the point that she would sometimes sleep in students' bunks. She led the band out at halftime that year and was soon named the school's mascot. The original Reveille was buried in front of the entrance to Kyle Field after her death.

Reveille is the mascot of the Aggies, a collie that roams the sidelines during football games. One day back in 1931, some students were returning to campus when they accidentally hit a stray puppy and injured its leg. After smuggling the dog into their dorm and bandaging it up, the dog spent the night there. In the morning, the campus was awoke to a bugler's reveille, and the dog barked in response. This is where the name Reveille came from. In spite of the fact that dogs were not allowed on campus, Reveille was the exception, to the point that she would sometimes sleep in students' bunks. As the story goes, if she selected your bunk, you were not allowed to kick her out!She led the band out at halftime that year and was soon named the school's mascot. The original Reveille was buried in front of the entrance to Kyle Field after her death.
